Eat Your View

The average food on the American plate has traveled 1,500 miles, is between 7- 14 days old, and has wasted criminal amounts of fossil fuel from fertilization to harvest. If that food is processed and packaged in any way, it's even worse.

Here is author Michael Pollan (In Defense of Food, The Omnivores Dilemma, Food Rules and more) explaining that although we may not have this at the forefront of our consciousness: food in the conventional supermarket system contributes mightily to our outrageous energy waste and C02 levels.

He also makes the point that if we don't keep local farmers in business, agricultural landscapes will be covered with houses, highways and shopping malls.

Joining a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a great way to begin to turn this ship around. You can direct your money and support toward a local or regional farm. All your produce will be fresh, seasonal, and you'll be contributing toward that beautiful farmland view.
